“WHOM SAY YE THAT I AM”

Matthew 16:13, 14 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

The first question Jesus asked was, “WHOM DO MEN SAY THAT I AM?” For the next few weeks this question will be on the minds of millions of people. The next seven weeks before Easter millions of secular Christians will be attending Church in the search of this answer because of what is commonly called Lent. People will be going through all kinds of Religious Ceremonies, Fasting, Praying and Repenting in hope of Receiving Eternal Life.

This year because of a movie called “THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST” many unchurched people will be confronted with this same question. Mel Gibson one of the most popular actors of recent years has spent 30 million dollars of his personal fortune producing this movie in an effort to give an answer to this important question. And, because of the great controversy surrounding this movie the secular media’s of newspapers, magazines, radio and television will also be addressing this question.

We will be hearing all sorts of answers to this question, (not unlike the answers of Jesus’ disciples.) They said people say you are a Preacher of Righteousness or a Great Prophet. Today people say that Jesus was a Good Man, a Prophet, a Teacher, a Mad Man, a Phony or an Imposter.

Matthew 16:15, 16 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

It was only after his disciples had answered what the world called him that he asked them the next question. This is still true today. We are not confronted with the second question Jesus asked, until we have rejected all the answers that the world and religion say that Jesus is or was.

Jesus’ question to his disciples was, “BUT WHOM SAY YE THAT I AM?”

“THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION IN LIFE.” I have often said you can have the answers to all the world’s questions, but unless you have the answer to this question, all the other answers do not matter. It only matters to God “WHO YOU SAY THAT JESUS IS.”

There is “ONLY ONE CORRECT ANSWER” to this question, “THOU ART THE CHRIST” the Son of the Living God. However, this answer has many aspects to it. This answer is not as simple as it seems. Millions of well meaning and religious people will say these words over the next few weeks, but not experience Eternal Life, because they do not have a Revelation of the fullness of Christ.

Matthew 16: 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

“REVELATION OF THE FULLNESS OF CHRIST” is more than just having a simple word answer to a simple question. It is having “A KNOWING FROM ABOVE” in your human spirit that Jesus was and still is “I AM THAT I AM” who met Moses in the burning bush experience.

The name “I AM THAT I AM,” reveals the fullness of Christ found in John’s Gospel.

John 4:26 “I that speak unto thee AM HE”

John 6:35 “I AM the bread of life.”

John 9:5 “I AM the light of the world.”

John 10:7 “ I AM the door of the sheep.”

John 10:14 “I AM the good shepherd.”

John 11:25 “I AM the resurrection and the life:”

John 14:6 “I AM the way, the truth, and the life:”

Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock

I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Jesus told Peter that the Church (Gk. Ekklesia) would be built upon the rock of the “REVELATION OF CHRIST.” This is of utmost of importance for us to understand. The church is not a denomination, a doctrine or a building. The church is “A PEOPLE” who have received the Revelation of the fullness of Christ in their spirit and have been Born Again by the Holy Spirit. Everyone who has repented of his or her Sin and Received this Revelation are part of the Church.

I Corinthians 3:9-11 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

I Corinthians 12:12-14 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many.

Ephesian 2:18-22 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

I Peter 2:5-10 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

From these verses we understand that the “REVELATION OF THE FULLNESS OF CHRIST” is necessary to becoming a member of the church of Jesus Christ. This revelation is a work of the Holy Ghost and is not humanly possible. This revelation is received when God removes the veil of our heart in reading the Scriptures when we turn to the Lord in Sincerity, Repentance and Faith.

Luke 24:13-32 And, behold, two of them went… to a village called Emmaus,… And,… Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. But their eyes were holden that they should not know him…. And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. And they drew nigh unto the village, … and… they constrained him, saying, Abide with us:… And he went in to tarry with them. And… as he sat at meat with them,… their eyes were opened, and they knew him…. And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

Finally when we receive the “REVELATION OF THE FULLNESS OF CHRIST” we receive from Jesus “THE KEYS OF THE KINGDOM.” These keys represent the “AUTHORITY” to do the same things Jesus did when he was upon the earth.

Matthew 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Many professing Christians have never received the “REVELATION OF THE FULLNESS OF CHRIST,” and many who have received the revelation have been afraid to confess the revelation, which they have received. When we began to witness to the world the revelation of the fullness of Christ than we began to walk in the “AUTHORITY OF THE KINGDOM” as kings and Priests.
